How to reduce the gap between research and teaching practice?

Title of the conference:

Minding the Research–Practice Gap: Promising Approaches for Continuous Innovation in Science Teacher Education

Summary:

In science teacher education there is a perennial gap between our research-based vision for students’ meaningful science learning and the predominant instructional practices in school science settings. While “pockets of innovation” exist, they are often heavily resourced and mentored. In this session, we will explore several contemporary approaches for bridging the research–practice gap in science teacher learning and development. Practitioner research and design-based research will serve as exemplar mechanisms for rapid, continuous, and systematic implementation of innovation in science teaching that is grounded in research.
